AM Intelligence Orders 20000 Nvidia GPUs in 4 Billion Expansion Deal
AM Intelligence (AMI), backed by the founders of Greenko, has secured a $4 billion deal to purchase 20,000 Nvidia Rubin graphics processing units (GPUs). This order will support a 70MW capacity expansion across India and Malaysia, despite ongoing global chip shortages. The announcement is expected soon, following an August agreement to deploy 9,000 GPUs at AMI’s Hyderabad center for cloud computing. By the second quarter of 2027, AMI aims to operate the largest operational compute capacity in India.
The Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs, more advanced than the previous Blackwell generation, will be powered by clean energy and storage from AM Green and Greenko’s 50GW infrastructure platform. AMI plans to offer a GPU-as-a-rental service, aiming to provide “Indian electrons for Indian tokens.” The company is targeting hyperscalers, neo-cloud providers, sovereign AI initiatives, and local developer communities. Additionally, AMI intends to bring another 300MW capacity online in the next 15 months, requiring an investment of $20 billion.
In January, AMI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with InvestUP, Uttar Pradesh’s investment arm, to establish an AI hub with 1GW capacity by 2030, involving a $25 billion investment and deployment of 500,000 high-performance chips. Nvidia has also partnered with other Indian companies, including Reliance Industries and Tata Motors. India’s data center capacity, currently at 1.2GW, is projected to reach 10GW by the end of the decade.
AM Green, owned by Greenko Group founders Anil Chalamalasetty and Mahesh Kolli, recently announced a $1.4 billion deal to acquire a 17.5% stake in Greenko Energy Holdings from Japan’s Orix Corp., valuing Greenko Energy at $7.5 billion. Other companies, such as Yotta Data Services, Adani Group, and Reliance Industries, have also announced significant AI investments. Under the IndiaAI Mission, launched in March 2024, the government aims to build a robust AI ecosystem with a budget outlay of Rs.10,371.92 crore over five years.
