Amazon Abandons MMOs Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark, Hands Control Back to Original Developers
Amazon has announced its decision to step away from handling two of its massive multiplayer online games (MMOs): Throne and Liberty, as well as Lost Ark. Instead of shutting them down, the company is handing over control to their original developers.
The change will take place in Q4 2026 for Throne and Liberty, with NC Corporation taking over live operations from Amazon Game Studios. For Lost Ark, this transition will occur in early 2027, with Smilegate Games replacing Amazon as the publisher.
This move is a departure from Amazon's recent decision to shut down its survival MMO, New World, in 2027. However, unlike New World, Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark will continue to operate under their original developers' guidance, minimizing disruption to players.
In an effort to ensure a smooth transition, NC Corporation will take over customer support and resources for both games, although players can expect minor teething problems as servers are stress-tested.
