Amazon Alumni's Robot Home-Building Venture Secures $40m Boost
Reframe Systems, founded by former Amazon Robotics executives, has secured $40m in equity financing to build a second automated component factory in Massachusetts. The new facility, FAB1, will replace the existing one, FAB0, and is expected to produce up to 500 multifamily units or 250 single-family homes per year.
The company's robotic system can build homes three times faster and 35% cheaper than traditional methods. The 'microfactory' approach involves setting up a factory in an existing building near the construction site, which can be done in under 100 days for less than $5m.
Reframe Systems' chief executive, Vikas Enti, said that the goal is to augment the entire construction process, making it more predictable and efficient. The company's software incorporates local zoning, terrain, climate, and architectural requirements to generate production files and field instructions used to build each home.
