Amazon Backs Nuclear Expansion at Maryland's Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center
Constellation and Amazon have announced a landmark agreement that will support the expansion of Maryland's Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center. The deal, which spans 20 years, includes a power purchase agreement for 690 megawatts of electricity, including an additional 190 megawatts from new nuclear capacity.
The partnership, which will see Constellation invest over $3 billion in infrastructure upgrades and new generating capacity, is set to bring online approximately 190 megawatts of emissions-free energy between 2030 and 2032. This expansion will help provide Amazon with the energy it needs for its operations across a 13-state region.
According to Constellation's CEO, Joe Dominguez, this agreement demonstrates how private investment can strengthen critical energy infrastructure. 'Amazon's commitment supports the long-term operation of Calvert Cliffs for generations to come and creates a strong foundation for future investment in both the facility and in advanced nuclear technologies.'
