Amazon Blocks Meta AI Shopping Agent Over Credentials Concerns
Amazon has blocked Meta's Muse AI shopping agent from accessing its website after the retailer cited concerns over credentials and transparency. According to GeekWire, Amazon asked Meta to prevent the personal AI agent from accessing its store but was unsuccessful.
Muse is a new AI agent launched by Meta in the US earlier this month, capable of acting on a user's behalf by shopping, making payments, reading emails, and managing calendars. However, Amazon claims that Muse fails to identify itself while browsing and appears to capture and store customer credentials.
Amazon has been trying to keep rival AI agents away from its storefront for the past year, taking Perplexity to court over the Comet browser and blocking shopping agents from Google and OpenAI. The company has a financial reason to control the shopping trip, as it generated more than $68 billion in advertising revenue last year.
A Meta spokesperson said that Muse cannot see users' passwords or payment methods, but instead holds credentials in secure storage for authentication without exposing them to the model.
