Amazon Cargo Jet Overshoots Runway, Kills Five at Miami Airport

A Boeing 767 cargo jet operated by Amazon overshot a runway at Miami International Airport and crashed into two vehicles, killing five people on the ground.

The plane, which was originally built to carry passengers and converted to a cargo plane in 2015, landed after a two-hour flight from Puerto Rico despite strong winds over 25 knots. It barreled roughly 1,300 feet past the end of the runway before hitting a van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp., a company that cleans planes.

The pilot and co-pilot survived the crash, but five people in the cleaning crew died while two others were injured. National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy called the scene 'utter devastation.'
