Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five
An Amazon Prime Air cargo plane, bearing the Boeing 767 logo, overran the diagonal runway of Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon. The incident resulted in at least five fatalities and five injuries.
The plane, identified as Flight 7598, had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It came to rest at the northwest end of the airport after overrunning the runway.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded quickly, but the aircraft was found on fire after striking multiple vehicles. Three of the injured were taken to a trauma centre in critical condition, while two others were transported to a local hospital.
The cause of the runway overrun is not yet known, and an investigation by the FAA will determine what led to the incident. The crash has resulted in a temporary halt of airport operations, with about 250 flights delayed due to the disruption.
