Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five
At least five people were killed and several others hospitalized after an Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport (MIA) on Sunday afternoon.
The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, operated by 21 Air for Amazon, overran the airport's runway while landing from San Juan, Puerto Rico. According to officials, three additional victims are in critical condition as of Sunday night.
The crash initially caused a complete ground stop at MIA, but two of its four runways have since reopened. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident and will send inspectors to examine the wreckage.
A statement from Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the company is 'still gathering details' about the crash and is working closely with local authorities to understand what happened. In the meantime, air traffic controllers had diverted 84 flights originally bound for MIA, causing significant delays and potential cancellations.
