Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport
An Amazon cargo plane has crashed at Miami International Airport, killing at least five people. The Boeing 767, operated by 21 Air, overran the runway after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, around 2pm local time on Sunday.
The aircraft struck multiple vehicles before bursting into flames and sending thick black smoke into the sky. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the crash, but officials had not yet released information on injuries or deaths by the time of reporting.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the FAA is sending investigators, and a full ground stop was issued at the airport as emergency crews responded. The Prime Air plane came to rest beside a roadway near two semi-trucks, according to images from the scene.
About 250 flights were delayed at the airport as of late afternoon Sunday, according to FlightAware, a website that tracks flight disruptions. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a social media post: 'We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened.'
