Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport

An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, killing at least five people and injuring five others. The aircraft, operated by 21 Air, a cargo carrier based in North Carolina, overran the runway after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Prime Air plane struck vehicles and was engulfed in flames, trapping the pilot and copilot in the cockpit and some occupants in cars. Miami-Dade Rescue Fire Chief Ray Jadallah said crews had to extricate a person who was trapped under a vehicle.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has sent a team to investigate the crash led by Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy. Amazon said it would cooperate with any investigation, offering its condolences to the families of those affected.
