Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport
An Amazon cargo plane, operated by 21 Air, crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, killing at least five people and injuring five others. The Boeing 767 aircraft overran the runway after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, around 2 p.m., causing heavy flames and smoke to billow into the sky.
The plane struck vehicles and was engulfed in flames, trapping the pilot and copilot in the cockpit and some occupants in cars. Rescue crews had to extricate a person who was trapped under a vehicle. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, but authorities said it may have been weather-related or mechanical.
More than 160 flights were canceled and nearly 325 delayed due to the incident. Amazon released a statement expressing its sympathy for the families affected by the tragedy and committing to cooperate with any investigation into the cause of the crash.
