Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami International Airport, Kills Five

An Amazon cargo plane operated by 21 Air overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing at least five people and injuring three critically. The Prime Air plane was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it crashed beside a roadway near two semi-trucks around 2 p.m.

The aircraft, a 32-year-old Boeing 767 originally built to carry passengers, was converted into a cargo plane in 2015. It had been operating as an Amazon Prime Air plane for several years before the crash.

Miami-Dade Rescue Fire Chief Ray Jadallah said some people were trapped inside vehicles, and the pilot and copilot were also trapped in the plane. Fire crews were dealing with a fuel leak on the plane hours after the crash, according to Jadallah.
