Amazon Catches Break on Tariffs, Gets $600M Refund
Amazon will receive $600 million in tariff-related refunds after the US Treasury refunded over $49 billion to companies in June. The company's CFO, Brian Olsavsky, explained that Amazon absorbed most of the costs due to tariffs and did not pass them on to customers.
The refund money won't flow directly to consumers as Amazon is not the 'importer of record for the large majority of items' it sells. Suppliers were hit more with tariff costs, according to Olsavsky.
However, in cases where Amazon identifies customers who absorbed higher costs due to tariffs, the company will proactively contact them and automatically issue refunds.
