Amazon Clears Hurdle for Gorham Distribution Center
A proposed Amazon distribution center in Gorham has been approved by the town's planning board, despite opposition from local residents. The 150,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center will be built on Main Street, just next to a residential neighborhood.
The proposal has drawn fire from Gorham United, a local grassroots advocacy group, who expressed concerns about increased traffic and potential damage to roadways. Joshua Trombley, a member of the group, stated that someone should develop the land, but it makes more sense to re-zone the area from industrial to housing.
Town officials had previously said they bought the land as part of a plan to spur industrial economic growth, and sold it to Amazon in August 2025 after it received 'tepid interest' from developers. The town planner visited a similar distribution center run by Amazon in Littleton, Massachusetts, and reported that it was well-run, clean, and quiet.
