Amazon customer receives Intel CPUs twice after ordering Ryzen 7 9850X3D
An Amazon customer experienced a peculiar scam twice in a row while attempting to purchase the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor. Redditor BitProfessional3792 ordered the same CPU on two consecutive days, both times directly from Amazon, only to receive an Intel Core i3 processor in sealed Ryzen boxes.
The first order included an MSI MAG X870E Carbon motherboard and was shipped overnight. Upon opening, the package contained an Intel Core i3 3000-series processor instead of the expected AMD chip. Despite this, the buyer placed a second order for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D with same-day delivery, this time recording the unboxing to document the process. The second package also contained an Intel processor, identical to the first one.
The buyer noticed that both Ryzen boxes appeared to have been opened from the bottom while leaving the upper seal intact. This detail could explain how the swap occurred without raising suspicion during visual inspections. Both boxes also carried LPN labels, which are used within Amazon’s logistics system, though this does not confirm whether the processors were previously returned.
Amazon is currently processing the returns, though the second case triggered an identity verification request due to suspicious activity on the account. Frustrated by the repeated incidents, the buyer ultimately opted to purchase the Ryzen 7 9850X3D from Best Buy instead.
