Amazon Doubles Down on Robotics with $100 Million Facility
Amazon is investing heavily in robotics, with plans to build a new $100 million manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana. The facility will be Amazon's fourth robot-making plant and will double the number of its existing robot-manufacturing plants.
The company has been expanding its robotics operations since acquiring Kiva Systems for $775 million in 2012. Over the past decade, it has deployed over a million robots to sort, lift, and move packages inside its warehouses.
Amazon claims that its robotics investments have created high-paying, skilled jobs and reduced recordable workplace injuries by more than 40%. The new facility is expected to open by 2028.
