Amazon Drone Delivery Plan Sparks Backlash in Westborough

A packed community meeting in Westborough, Massachusetts, turned tense as residents expressed their opposition to Amazon's plans for drone delivery. The proposed program would see drones delivering packages weighing up to 5 pounds within a 7.5-mile radius of the company's distribution center.

The drones themselves are highly autonomous and measure 5 feet by 5 feet, equipped with cameras and sensors for navigation. Federal Aviation Administration-certified pilots will monitor their health remotely but won't control them directly.

According to Amazon, the goal is to increase daily deliveries from one to three drones initially to eventually reaching 1,000 per day. The company claims customer demand drives this expansion, with some locations seeing a few hundred deliveries each day already.
