Amazon Drone Drops Package in Texas Woman's Pool Amid Expansion Plans
A Texas woman's Amazon package landed in her backyard pool after an autonomous drone dropped it off on Monday, much to her surprise.
Lindsey Austen told Business Insider that she didn't even choose the drone delivery option for her order, which included dry cat food and shoe insoles for her daughter, along with some light bulbs.
Austen said she was inside the house when she heard the loud buzzing of the drone arriving, thinking it might be 'the second coming of Jesus.' She then ran outside to record the delivery on video and captured the moment when the drone released the package into her pool.
The incident went viral on X, with Austen saying the box was completely wet but luckily, the contents weren't damaged. Amazon spokesperson Lindsay Hamilton acknowledged that 'incidents' with its delivery drones are extremely rare but said the company learns from them and takes steps to prevent recurrences.
