Amazon Drops $1 Billion on Next-Gen Chip Tech in Partnership with Synopsys
Amazon has made a significant investment in its proprietary semiconductor efforts through a multi-year agreement worth more than $1 billion with Synopsys. This deal will provide Amazon Web Services (AWS) with access to advanced chip-design technology, enabling it to develop specialized processors for AI computing.
The partnership expands on a 15-year relationship between the two companies and supports AWS's growing portfolio of internally developed processors, including Graviton and Trainium. These chips are designed for specific applications such as networking, storage, and cloud security.
Synopsys will also use AWS infrastructure to develop its own chip-design products, including Amazon Bedrock. This tool is used to build new AI-powered engineering tools.
