Amazon Earnings Power Stock Market to End Wild July on High Note
The stock market closed out July on a high note, despite a volatile month, thanks in part to Amazon's impressive second-quarter earnings announcement.
Amazon's shares surged nearly 9% in after-hours trading on July 30 after the tech giant reported stronger-than-expected earnings of $5.75 per share on revenue of $200.6 billion, according to Reuters and CNBC.
The company's cloud division, Amazon Web Services, showed strong momentum, which boosted confidence in its ability to manage capital expenditure plans even as it increases AI infrastructure investment.
July proved a turbulent month for equities overall, with the Nasdaq-100 falling approximately 7% for the month and recording its steepest monthly decline since March 2025. The Dow rose 0.3%, while the equal-weighted S&P 500 outperformed the Nasdaq during the period.
