Amazon Enrolls Sponsored Products Campaigns into Creator Content Inventory

Amazon made a significant change to its Sponsored Products campaigns on August 10, 2026. The company quietly enrolled every active campaign into creator content inventory without requiring advertisers to opt-in or pause their campaigns. This means that ads are now being displayed in influencer reviews and buying guides at the same bids set for high-intent shoppers searching specific products.

The change adds a new layer of placement inventory, which is governed by three mechanics: the Amazon Influencer Program, bid modifiers, and search term reporting. Advertisers who didn't check their settings before August 10 are already paying per click for placements in creator content, regardless of whether they intended to target off-Amazon traffic or not.

According to Amazon's documentation, placement modifiers do not apply to off-Amazon placements, which means that advertisers may be directing spend to a discovery-stage audience at the same bid profile as high-intent shoppers. This could lead to inefficient use of ad budgets and potentially harm brand reputation if products with weak creative or outdated images are featured in creator content.

Experts have warned about the risks associated with this change, including the loss of bid modifier effectiveness and the corruption of search term reporting. Advertisers who want to limit delivery to off-Amazon spend can switch to 'Limit off-Amazon spend' at the campaign level, but there is currently no SKU-level control for advertisers managing large catalogs.

Amazon's previous attempts to build social commerce surfaces have failed in sequence, but this change could potentially be a step towards reviving these efforts. However, it remains to be seen how effective this new layer of placement inventory will be in driving sales and revenue for Amazon advertisers.
