Amazon Expands $2.5 Billion Settlement with FTC
Amazon is accelerating and expanding its $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which was first announced last September over allegations that the company misled customers over Prime subscriptions.
The FTC claims Amazon used 'dark patterns,' or design tricks, to enroll customers in Prime and make it difficult for them to cancel their subscriptions.
Under the revised order, eligible consumers may receive up to $200, a significant increase from the previous cap of $51.
Amazon has already issued over $825 million in redress payments as of September 9, according to the FTC.
The settlement does not require consumers to submit claims, and future payments will be sent electronically.
