Amazon Expands Airbus A330 Fleet Amid Shift Away from Boeing 767

Amazon's air cargo network is gearing up for an expanded Airbus A330 fleet, gradually reducing its reliance on Boeing 767 aircraft. The expansion is expected to begin in 2027, with Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) receiving its first Amazon-ready A330 freighter.

ABX Air, a subsidiary of ATSG, will operate the aircraft and must complete Federal Aviation Administration programs before adding it to its operating certificate. This includes pilot training, aircraft operations, and maintenance procedures for the new type.

Amazon has committed to multi-year leases covering four A330 aircraft, with supply chain problems slowing the conversion program and delaying some planned deliveries. ATSG plans to acquire and convert 30 A330 aircraft as part of its broader cargo fleet strategy.
