Amazon Expands Drone Delivery Service to Cleveland, Sets Sights on Widespread Adoption

Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery service has expanded to the Cleveland area, marking its latest step towards widespread adoption. The program can deliver items weighing up to five pounds in as little as 30 minutes and is capable of serving millions of items, including groceries, electronics, cosmetics, medications, and household products.

The company plans to expand the service to nearly 500 cities and towns by the end of 2026. Currently, thousands of drone deliveries are made each day in the seven states the program currently serves. Amazon's Prime Air Drone Delivery is designed to cover a 175-square-mile area around each site, with drones able to deliver items that fit inside a large shoebox.

The expansion into Cleveland comes as the company continues to push the boundaries of drone delivery technology. Amazon isn't the only player in this space, however, as the Cleveland Clinic has recently launched its own prescription drone delivery program out of its Beachwood campus. The clinic's program serves a five-mile radius around the campus and is the first long-term established prescription drug drone delivery program in the country.
