Amazon Expands Drone Delivery to Nearly 500 US Cities by 2026
Amazon has announced plans to expand its drone delivery service, Prime Air, to nearly 500 cities and towns in the United States by the end of 2026. This represents a sixfold increase from the current footprint, which includes seven states.
The expansion will bring drone delivery of lightweight packages to tens of millions of customers in metro areas such as Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Omaha, Tampa, and more. Amazon's Prime Air currently makes thousands of deliveries each day to customers in these locations.
Amazon says the drones use onboard cameras and sensors to navigate, but do not record a live video feed monitored by an employee. The service is limited to packages that weigh 5 pounds or less.
