Amazon Expands FTC Settlement Payments with Higher Limits and Broader Eligibility
Amazon is expanding its settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over alleged Prime membership enrollment deception. In 2025, Amazon agreed to pay $1.5 billion to eligible customers and $1 billion in civil penalties, following allegations that it misled customers into enrolling in Prime and made it difficult to cancel.
The revised order increases the maximum payment limit from $51 to $200 and expands eligibility for more customers. Those who already received payments will receive an additional $149, while new eligibles will get $200. If funds remain after this second round of payments, they will be distributed among all eligible consumers.
Payments will be sent automatically starting October 1, 2026, via electronic transfer or physical check. A third round of supplemental payments may be made in April 2027 if funds still remain.
