Amazon Expands Prime Refund Settlement, Raises Payment Cap to $200
Amazon has agreed to accelerate and expand payments to consumers under its $2.5 billion settlement, resolving allegations of deceptive Prime subscription enrollment practices.
The Federal Trade Commission announced a revised order that will allow more consumers to qualify for refunds up to $200, increasing the maximum payment cap from $51.
Under the original settlement, Amazon was required to refund up to $51 to consumers who used fewer than 10 Prime benefits during a one-year period. However, with the revised order, millions of additional consumers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits will now be eligible for automatic refunds.
The revised order also eliminates the need for claims forms or paperwork, as payments will be distributed automatically via Venmo, PayPal, or mailed check.
Amazon has already issued over $845 million in redress payments since September 2026 and is expected to distribute an additional $149 per consumer who previously received refunds, bringing their total to $200 by April 2027.
