Amazon Expands Refund Payments Under FTC Settlement
Amazon is issuing millions more refunds to consumers under an expanded federal court order stemming from the Federal Trade Commission's $2.5 billion deceptive enrollment settlement.
The FTC alleges Amazon engaged in deceptive Prime enrollment practices, which led to a September 2025 settlement requiring Amazon to pay up to $1.5 billion in redress to affected consumers and a $1 billion civil penalty.
As of September 2026, Amazon has issued over $845 million in redress payments, with the eligibility requirement now expanding beyond low-use subscribers to include those who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits over a one-year period.
The individual payment cap could increase from $51 to $200 total, while existing recipients may receive an automatic supplemental payment of up to $149 starting by April 2027.
