Amazon Expands Refund Payouts Under FTC Settlement
Amazon is expanding its refund payouts to consumers affected by its deceptive Prime enrollment practices. The Federal Trade Commission's $2.5 billion settlement, reached in September 2025, requires Amazon to pay up to $1.5 billion in redress to consumers harmed by the company's actions. As of September 2026, Amazon has issued over $845 million in payments.
The eligibility criteria for these refunds are changing, and millions more Prime subscribers who used between 11 and 20 benefits over a one-year period will now be eligible. The individual payment cap could rise from $51 to $200.
Those who have already received earlier checks may see an additional automatic supplemental payment of up to $149 starting in April 2027. All new payments will be issued automatically via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check beginning on October 1, 2026, without the need for consumers to file claims.
The FTC warns that anyone claiming to represent the agency and asking for money or personal banking details is running a potential scam.
