Amazon Expands Refund Payouts Under FTC Settlement

Amazon is accelerating and widening consumer refund payouts under an expanded federal court order. The settlement stems from the Federal Trade Commission's $2.5 billion deceptive enrollment case against Amazon. As part of the historic September 2025 agreement, Amazon was required to pay up to $1.5 billion in redress to consumers harmed by its Prime enrollment practices.

Additionally, a $1 billion civil penalty was imposed on the company. So far, Amazon has issued more than $845 million in redress payments to consumers as of September 2026.

The eligibility requirement for refunds is expanding beyond low-use subscribers to include millions who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits over a one-year period.

Those eligible will receive up to $200 total, with individual payment caps increasing from $51. Existing recipients may also see an automatic supplemental payment of up to $149 starting by April 2027.
