Amazon Grocery Delivery Falters on Perishable Items

Amazon's foray into the grocery delivery business has been marred by inconsistent quality control, particularly when it comes to perishable items. Fresh dairy products, raw meats, frozen treats, and canned goods are among the types of food that may not be the safest bet when ordered from Amazon.

The problem lies in maintaining proper temperature control during transportation and storage. Dairy products, for instance, can support microbial growth if temps rise or deliveries take longer than expected. Raw meats, on the other hand, are classified as high-risk foods because they can spoil rapidly and harbor harmful pathogens.

Frozen treats, such as ice cream, have also been known to arrive in a melted state due to inconsistent packaging and transportation issues. Canned goods often suffer from dented packaging, which raises concerns about food safety.

While Amazon has made efforts to improve its logistics and packaging, customers continue to report subpar experiences with their orders. As one customer noted, 'you cannot personally monitor the temperature while your order is making its way to you.'
