Amazon Halts Operations with Cargo Company After Fatal Plane Crash
Amazon has temporarily halted its use of cargo company 21 Air after a fatal plane crash in Miami killed five people. The decision comes as Amazon continues to support an investigation into the September 6th incident and reviews surrounding circumstances.
According to Amazon, it will be working with other shipping companies to fill gaps left by 21 Air's suspension. These companies include Sun Country Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Air Transport International, ABX Air, ASL Airlines, and Cargojet.
The crash occurred when the Prime Air Boeing 767 cargo plane operated by 21 Air overshot a runway and plowed into multiple vehicles before going on fire. Both pilots survived with minor injuries, while five people in a cleaning crew were killed and another five were wounded.
Former employees of 21 Air have reported safety concerns with the North Carolina-based company controlled by Houston Astros owner Jim Crane through an LLC.
