Amazon Haults Drone Delivery Plan in North Haven Amid Public Concerns
Amazon's plan to operate a drone delivery program from its North Haven warehouse has been put on hold, pending input from local and state officials. The decision was made after First Selectman Michael Freda received a call from an Amazon representative, who agreed to delay the project until stakeholders can weigh in.
The move comes just months after the town's Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved Amazon's application to operate drones in the area. However, state officials were caught off guard when the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced a review of the project.
Some local lawmakers have expressed concerns about the proposal, citing potential harm to wildlife from the noise pollution and visual disturbance caused by the drones. State Rep. Dave Yaccarino, R-North Haven, called the idea 'a horrible one.'
