Amazon Hikes Minimum Wage, Rolls Out New Banking and Grocery Benefits
Amazon announced it is increasing its minimum hourly starting wage to $20 for eligible employees in its core operations. This move bumps up the company's average starting wage to around $24 per hour.
The e-commerce giant also introduced a new banking benefit called Day 1 Financial, which provides a membership in First Tech Federal Credit Union. The service includes zero overdraft or monthly maintenance fees and no account minimums on standard checking and savings accounts.
In addition to these benefits, all Amazon employees in the US will have access to new grocery benefits starting in October. This includes an uncapped 10% discount on eligible groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market online, as well as a 20% discount in Whole Foods stores.
