Amazon Hikes Prices on Echo, Fire TV, Kindle Amid Memory Chip Shortage
Amazon has quietly raised prices on several of its popular consumer electronics products to offset increasing costs due to memory shortages. The price hikes affect various devices, including Echo smart speakers, Fire TV streaming media players, Kindles, and eero wireless mesh networking systems.
The affected products include the base Echo Dot, which now costs $79.99 compared to the previous $49.99; the Echo Show 11, which increased from $219.99 to $249.99; and the Fire TV Stick HD model, which rose from $34.99 to $39.99.
Amazon's eero 7 wireless mesh networking system also saw a price increase, going from $349.99 to $399.99, while the eero Pro 7 rose from $699.99 to $799.99. The company did not raise prices for its Ring products.
The move comes as several big tech companies have raised prices due to memory chip shortages caused by increased demand for AI compute. Apple and Microsoft are among those that have recently increased prices on their products, citing the same reason.
