Amazon Hit with Class Action Lawsuit Over Pregnant Employee Treatment

Amazon has been sued in a class action lawsuit over allegations of systematic discrimination against pregnant employees.

The proposed nationwide class action, filed by four former warehouse employees in Brooklyn, New York federal court, claims Amazon denies pregnant workers basic accommodations such as chairs, bathroom and water breaks, and time off for prenatal appointments.

According to the complaint, Amazon threatens and regularly fires pregnant employees who miss too much work, and illegally demands medical documentation from those seeking accommodations.

The plaintiffs claim these actions violate the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and New York labor law.

Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated that the company provides pregnancy-related accommodations to tens of thousands of employees annually, with more than 99.9% of requests approved in the last year.
