Amazon Inks Deal with Constellation to Extend Nuclear Plant Life
A major deal between Amazon and Constellation will extend the life of Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant by 20 years, allowing it to produce more electricity and explore next-generation small modular reactors.
The agreement involves a 20-year power purchase agreement between Amazon and Constellation, owner of the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Lusby. The deal will allow Amazon to buy 690 megawatts of existing and new power from the plant, starting next year.
Constellation plans to invest $3 billion in the plant as a result of the agreement, which will fund a facility uprate that increases generating capacity by 190 megawatts. This upgrade is expected to come online between 2030 and 2032.
