Amazon Invests $55B+ in New Jersey, Empowering Small Businesses and Workforce Development
Amazon's presence in New Jersey has been substantial since 2008, with the company investing more than $55 billion in the state and contributing over $60 billion to its economy. The company has created over 42,000 full- and part-time jobs, directly and indirectly supporting another 30,000 positions in industries such as construction, logistics, and professional services.
Amazon's investments in New Jersey extend beyond employment opportunities, with the company partnering with 14 educational institutions through its Career Choice program. Since 2019, over 6,400 employees have participated in these free initiatives, which prepays tuition for employees pursuing further education. This commitment to workforce development and upskilling is part of Amazon's broader effort to develop talent and create pathways to opportunity for its workforce.
Amazon has also invested in New Jersey's infrastructure, with 24 fulfillment and sortation centers, 23 delivery stations, and other facilities across the state. The company has expanded its retail footprint with 25 Whole Foods Market locations, and continues to grow its sustainable infrastructure with 15 solar farms and 15 sites with on-site solar power.
Amazon's presence in New Jersey also benefits small businesses, which sold over 284 million items through Amazon's store in the state. These independent sellers represent more than 60% of sales in Amazon's store, with the average seller generating over $540,000 in annual sales. By providing infrastructure, logistics support, and access to millions of customers, Amazon enables New Jersey's small businesses to scale their operations and create additional jobs throughout the state.
