Amazon Joins Elite Group with $3 Trillion Market Value
Amazon's market value surpassed $3 trillion for the first time on August 3, joining an elite group of companies that have reached this milestone. Tech giants Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Nvidia are the other four companies to have previously recorded a market value of $3 trillion.
Amazon achieved this feat after its shares rose by about 5% yesterday. The e-commerce and cloud computing giant first reached the $2 trillion market capitalization mark in June 2024 and the $1 trillion value benchmark in late 2018.
The company's recent earnings report for the second fiscal quarter of 2026 showed net sales increasing by 20% year-on-year to over $200 billion. Operating income was up 43% to $27.5 billion, while sales at its AWS cloud infrastructure division increased by 37% year-over-year to $42.2 billion, its fastest growth in 18 quarters.
AWS' strong performance was driven by AI-driven demand for cloud and chips solutions, causing the company's shares to jump. Amazon president and CEO Andy Jassy said that 'AWS is booming', adding that 'our AI and chips businesses each eclipsed run rates of more than $25 billion', which amounts to 'triple-digit percentages' growth year-on-year.
