Amazon Leads Coalition to Conserve Water in Colorado River Basin
Amazon is launching a collaborative initiative to conserve water in the Colorado River Basin. The company will invest $20 million over the next two years as part of a coalition aimed at raising $100 million for water conservation projects.
The Colorado River is a vital source of water and power for millions of people, but it's facing severe drought. After 25 years of drought, the river's reservoirs are below 30% capacity, with a gap of around 1 trillion gallons per year between supply and demand.
Amazon's investment will go towards two projects: one in California to detect leaks in water systems and another in Arizona to improve irrigation efficiency on tribal farmland. The company is also joining the Water Resilience Coalition to help lead collaborative action on water challenges worldwide.
