Amazon Leads the Pack for Pershing Square's Tech Portfolio
Pershing Square Capital Management, run by billionaire investor Bill Ackman, has been investing in several top-tier tech companies. The fund currently holds shares of Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT), and Meta Platforms (META). However, a recent analysis suggests that Amazon is the best investment opportunity among the three.
Ackman's fund primarily focuses on large-cap consumer-facing companies, but it has been expanding its portfolio to include AI stocks. The positions in Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta were all established within the past year or so, with Amazon being a long-time holding. Pershing Square previously held shares of Alphabet, but sold them off to buy more Microsoft stock.
A key factor contributing to Amazon's appeal is its massive revenue growth, which has been accelerating in recent quarters. The company's cloud business, Amazon Web Services (AWS), saw a 37% year-over-year increase in the first quarter, exceeding expectations. This rapid expansion is largely driven by AI momentum, with AWS adding $4.6 billion in revenue alone during the period.
CEO Andy Jassy has been adamant about Amazon's potential for growth, citing the company's ability to invest heavily in AI and other areas without sacrificing profitability. Ackman himself sees Amazon as a prime opportunity, and his fund is not selling.
