Amazon Locks in Nuclear Power Deal with Constellation Energy
A major deal between Constellation Energy Corp. (CEG) and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) has sent CEG stock soaring by over 2% in overnight trading.
The agreement, announced on September 30, 2026, will support more than $3 billion in investment at Maryland's Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant, including the addition of 190 MW of new capacity expected to come online between 2030 and 2032.
Amazon will purchase 690 MW of power under the deal, which includes the new capacity. Constellation says the revenue certainty provided by this agreement will enable them to relicense the plant for another 20 years.
The deal is expected to bring significant economic benefits to Maryland, including hundreds of jobs and a boost to the regional grid. It follows similar power deals between Constellation and other major tech companies like Microsoft and Meta Platforms.
