Amazon MGM Blasts 'Criminal' Harassment Lawsuit as 'Meritless'

Amazon MGM has responded to the lawsuit against Criminal creator Ed Brubaker, calling him an 'opportunist' and his claims 'meritless'. The studio, along with Brubaker and other defendants, filed a demurrer in response to the September 2 complaint filed by former production assistant ljaaz Noohu. Noohu alleges that he suffered 'sustained sexual, racial, national origin, and religious harassment' while working on Criminal, which is based on Brubaker's acclaimed graphic novel series of the same name.

Noohu was hired in late 2023 but left his position as a production assistant in September 2024. The defendants claim that Noohu sat on his allegations for twenty months before filing suit, and that he timed the complaint to coincide with the upcoming press circuit for Criminal. This would suggest that Noohu is motivated by personal gain rather than a genuine desire for redress.

The demurrer also disputes Noohu's claim that Brubaker pointed a functional firearm at his face and pulled the trigger. The defendants argue that this incident would have been reported by others in the room, given the industry's heightened awareness of firearms safety following the Rust incident.

The case will now proceed to an October 15 hearing in front of L.A. Superior Court Judge William Fahey, where the defendants will seek to demonstrate that Noohu's claims are meritless.
