Amazon MGM Studios Touts Success with Spanish-Language Action Films

At Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid, Amazon MGM Studios' executive team highlighted their success in developing Spanish-language content for global audiences. Javiera Balmaceda and Nicole Morganti, heads of international originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia, and Southern Europe respectively, discussed the company's approach to producing action and dystopian films in local languages.

The executives pointed to the success of Mercedes Ron's film adaptations on Prime Video, including the Fault series and romantic thriller Drawn Together. Balmaceda described Culpables as 'a massive success' and noted that Marfil is also performing well.

When asked why Amazon MGM is investing in Spanish-language action and dystopian fare, the executives argued that it's a way to democratize these genres and attract new audiences. Morganti specifically highlighted the sequel to Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, titled Apocalypse Z: New World, which will be released on Halloween.

The executives emphasized that zombies 'don't have a nationality' and can be successfully adapted into Spanish-language content. They also mentioned upcoming releases such as Zeta and Vengeance, but did not provide further details.
