Amazon Nears Deal with Invictus Games Foundation as Organizers Reassure on Funding
Amazon is reportedly close to signing a deal with the Invictus Games Foundation, which organizes the Paralympic-style event founded by Prince Harry. The Birmingham 2027 games are expected to bring about 550 wounded service members and veterans from 25 nations to the West Midlands.
The Sun first reported on Saturday that Amazon had agreed terms on a large commercial deal for the competition, but this has not been confirmed by either party. Organizers of the Invictus Games pushed back on reports of a funding crisis, stating they have already secured the necessary funding through a combination of UK Government underwriting, commercial partnerships, charitable support, and in-kind contributions.
A person familiar with the matter told The Sun that 'The deal would be a shot in the arm for Invictus and Harry. The Invictus committee are really hoping it gets over the line.' Amazon wanted to get involved due to their existing veterans' hiring programs in the UK, which makes a sports sponsorship plausible.
