Amazon Overhauls Kindle Lineup with Sleeker Designs and Improved Performance
Amazon has overhauled its Kindle e-reader lineup, introducing new models with recycled aluminum bodies and sleeker designs. The company's goal is to make its devices more compact and portable.
The base model Kindle now has a 6-inch display and measures just 6.8mm thick, making it the most pocket-sized e-reader Amazon has ever released. It features 16GB of internal storage and boasts up to 30% faster book opening times compared to its predecessor.
The Kindle Paperwhite, previously the sweet spot in Amazon's lineup, also gets a refresh. Its rear housing is now made from 80% recycled aluminum, and it has trimmed overall thickness to 7.2mm while retaining its glare-free 7-inch display.
The top-of-the-line Signature Edition model adds wireless charging, magnetic pogo pins, and an auto-adjusting front light sensor to the Paperwhite's feature set. It also increases storage capacity to 32GB and removes lockscreen ads.
