Amazon Overhauls Massive AI Data Center Campus in Rural Indiana
Amazon is undertaking a major overhaul of its massive AI data center campus in rural Indiana. Internal planning documents reveal that the company is consolidating multiple data centers and deploying thousands of Trainium-powered AI servers to build its next frontier AI models.
The effort, part of Amazon's AGI Pivot initiative, aims to provide enough computing capacity for the AGI organization to train its next big model before the end of this year. This underscores the urgency amid industrywide capacity constraints.
According to the documents, Amazon is redesigning networking, storage, and fiber-optic infrastructure so multiple data centers function as one. The project also converts some existing buildings into 'annexes,' connecting them to neighboring data centers to share core networking equipment instead of operating independently.
