Amazon Pledges $3bn for US Nuclear Expansion
Amazon has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Constellation Energy to support the expansion of the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power station in Maryland, USA. This deal will enable over $3 billion in infrastructure investment at the site.
The PPA, announced on September 30, means Amazon will receive 690 MW of power from the Calvert Cliffs plant, which has two pressurised water reactor units with capacities of 877 MW and 855 MW. According to Constellation, this agreement will also include improvements across the entire plant, as well as approximately 190 MW in new generating capacity coming online between 2030 and 2032.
The investment is expected to be over $3 billion (€2.6bn), with Constellation noting that it will be used for various upgrades and expansions at Calvert Cliffs.
