Amazon Pours $230M into Whole Foods Worker Benefits
Amazon is making significant investments in its Whole Foods Market team members' compensation and benefits. The company announced it will spend over $230 million to provide hourly workers with predictable pay increases, comprehensive health plans, and other perks starting next year.
The investment aims to align the operations of Whole Foods more closely with Amazon's. Beginning September 28th, hourly workers will receive compensation increases, while eligible full-time employees will begin receiving comprehensive health plans in January 2027.
These benefits include access to primary care and behavioral health providers with $5 copays, One Medical membership, and dental and vision coverage for nearly 20,000 part-time employees. Additionally, company-paid short- and long-term disability insurance will be available at no cost.
Average total compensation for Whole Foods' store workers is expected to increase to over $29 an hour when factoring in new benefits, a 75% increase in total benefit value.
