Amazon Pours $3 Billion into Indian Quick Commerce Bet
Amazon is making its biggest bet yet on India's quick commerce market by investing $3 billion to expand its business in the country. The investment will be split into two tranches: $1 billion by the end of 2027 and another $2 billion by 2030.
The funds will mainly go towards small neighborhood warehouses for Amazon Now service, with a target of about 1,300 stores by April, up from roughly 750 today. It will also be used to fund inventory software, AI demand forecasting, and a wider product range focused on daily essentials.
Currently, domestic players Eternal's Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto control 77% of India's quick commerce market with more than 4,500 stores between them. Amazon's share is 6.2%, while Walmart's Flipkart holds 11%. The sector is forecast to reach $41 billion by 2030.
Amazon said its quick commerce business has passed $1 billion in annualized gross sales over the past three months, making it the fastest-growing e-commerce business in Amazon India's history.
